Exit opps from a wireless infrastructure / telecom infra shop? (analyst seat)
I'm currently in a role that isn't really ideal, and I've got an analyst offer at a wireless infrastructure company. Think towers, ground leases, the physical backbone that carriers and data flow depend on. It's a strategic partnerships / deal-adjacent seat, not pure FP&A. I'd be around acquisitions and new investments, working with a sponsor, and getting real C-suite exposure given the size of the shop.
Here's my hesitation. The role requires moving to Florida. The pay is about the same as what I make now, except I currently live at home, so taking this means eating rent, utilities, and full COL that I don't pay today. On top of that, the long-term pay path doesn't look that enticing, roughly 150-180k in about six years.
So I'm trying to pressure-test whether the career upside justifies both the move and the real pay cut once cost of living is factored in.
I'm 21, just out of undergrad (dual finance / business analytics). I'm not dead set on PE. I mostly want to land in a strong career field where I can actually grow and learn, though a finance exit is preferred.
Questions for the group:
- How do recruiters actually view digital/wireless infra experience? Is it a legit feeder into infra funds, PE, real assets, or corporate development, or does it pigeonhole you into telecom?
- Anyone made the jump from an operating-company deal seat like this into a fund or a broader finance role? What did that path look like, and how long did it take?
- Is the sponsor relationship worth leaning on for a buyside or finance intro down the line, or do those never materialize the way people hope?
- Given the comp path (150-180k at the six-year mark) and the fact that I'd be giving up living at home to relocate, does the resume-building actually justify the move, or is that ceiling low enough that I should hold out?
- Would you uproot and move for a deal-adjacent infra seat like this, or is it not differentiated enough from a standard analyst role to justify the relocation?
Appreciate any honest takes.
