f500 Investor Relations

I am pursuing my MSF with completion planned for June '12 or December '12. I am looking for my first finance related job and I am having some difficulties. Does Investor Relations at a f500 provide much long-term value or is more of a marketing/communications/pr type of position?

Thanks in advance.

Investor relations is the first point of contact for potential investors. You will be talking with analyst and portfolio managers who have questions about the business. You will also probably be responsible for putting together earnings release PRs. Many IR positions also double as the company treasurer as well. So its more of an internal finance perspective but you do have a lot of contact with investors. You also handle company conference attendance and materials etc.
