Failed to land IB but got close

I recently recruited for SA24. I didn’t manage to land IB, but I did get a portfolio valuations (at a MM investment bank) offer. Think a tier or two lower than Houlihan.

I’ve already accepted my offer but still recruiting passively and trying to land IB. Is valuations a good a good stepping stone to banking? Would you rather work at a regional boutique firm or at a decently reputable MM bank in valuations?

Anyone have any advice/recommendations? Thanks guys!

Helped a friend go from TAS at a B4 to IB. Valuations is a similar spot. I’ve seen a good amount of people transition from Val / FDD to IB so don’t worry too much. Just grind your ass off and network with people who are in your dream position (i.e. people who were previously at a val shop and is now in IB). They’ll give you lots of good chats.

Thanks for this. Out of curiosity, would you rather take valuations at one of the places you mentioned or like a regional boutique with 30 bankers.

Hey just want to bump this for anyone else who has some input... What firm (IB) would you consider to be the cut-off?
