First Year Already looking to Lateral

First year analyst, went to target school have solid internship experience. Currently FT now at a BB, was supposed to be placed in my top coverage group (return offer) although last minute due to headcount cuts and MDs leaving I was placed in a group I absolutely do not want to be in (new group/bank trying to diversify coverage).

Any suggestions for what to do/ lateral, I understand staying a year is ideal but I just really don’t think I can do that.

Tough situation. I would just sit tight and start interview prep in late Oct/early Nov. Then after the holiday season network and apply to open lateral positions.

People will understand your situation but I feel like it’s best to give your current group a shot before applying elsewhere, especially since most places won’t interview you with only ~1 month of experience. It will help emphasize your reason for lateraling by saying you gave it a shot as well as increase your likelihood of getting an interview since you’ll have actual experience by then

I second this. Give it a few months first. It goes well with the story you'll be telling.
