First Year Tech Internship VS First Year FI AM Internship
My brother is a first year STEM student in the UK. He has the opportunity to do either a software engineering internship at a near-FAANG level company, or a fixed income research internship at a $100b AUM AM.
He isn’t entirely sure what he wants in a career, but is interested in macroeconomics and business consulting. He has the relevant skills to get onto any desk quant wise (especially on the sell side) too, so really, any career in tech, business or finance is available to him.
Anyone have any pros or cons of either internship? Currently suggesting the AM due to the more unique experience (it’s meant for second years - he got through screening due to impressing a key personnel).
Pay and prestige does not matter - SWE pay is much worse compared to finance in the UK, and prestige (thankfully) doesn’t bother him. Just looking to keep things open and start his career in as fruitful a way as possible.
Thanks!
