Getting Boot after 2 Years

Hey everyone - I’m getting the boot after 2 years at my MM/UMM fund. They said performance was good and they are happy to be a reference / resource but I had a family death that negatively impacted work for a few weeks (I completely shut down). I want to move back to the East Coast (NY or Philly) and still want to do PE. Any advice on how to navigate? I know market is absolutely shit right now

Dude, I'm sorry. That's ultra shitty to hear a firm would have such little heart. A few weeks of performance drop due to a death in the family? That's next level scumbag behaviour.

Really sorry to hear that. It’s always tough, especially when going through hardship. Were you the only one in your class that didn’t receive a promotion opportunity or is this typical of your firm given the number of seats? If the latter, they will likely be open to giving you a 3rd year (or even half a year) until you find something.

Same thing happened to me recently so I feel for you. It’s shitty bc you’ve clearly done the job well for two years and if you hadn’t you wouldn’t have made it that long (or at least I’d like to believe). Would just tell the market your two year Associate program you signed up for is up. Don’t think it’s necessary to share detail.
