Glencore Phone Interview

Hey primates,

Just found out I have a 30min phone interview this Thursday for an entry-level risk management position in London with Glencore. Anyone been through this experience before and care to share some advice?

I'm guessing because it's a first-rounder it's mostly going to be fit questions, but they did ask a few questions like that on the online application. What else could they fit in 30 minutes?

Any help is much appreciated!

Very much competency questions style interview for the first round, if its still done the same way there are four rounds in total

Thanks for the help, but could you elaborate on what sort of competencies these questions might cover? How far in depth into risk management might they go, considering that it's an entry-level graduate position?

Can I ask, is this straight out of undergrad?

Actually it's straight out of grad. I went straight from a US target into a 2-year Oxbridge grad program in social sciences. Since my grad thesis topic and my own personal interests lie in commodities (esp. oil), I was looking for jobs in risk management both in consulting and in commods trading. A friend tipped me off about this position, which I applied to through Milkround.

I don't mean to derail the discussion but thats pretty much my Plan B in case a job straight out of undergrad doesn't line up. What were your grades/GMAT/GRE scores like? Do they take things like ECs and work experience into consideration?

Look for a PM from me.

BankerCat, I've got a phone interview for Operations (full-time) coming up on Thursday. I would really appreciate some tips on what types of questions the recruiter will be asking!

Congrats to the guys who got similar interviews.

I am in the same boat, I got a phone interview for the grad program coming up on Monday, I was hoping you guys could provide some insight into the "fit" questions these guys were asking.

As BankerCat said above, in the application process they did ask a few fit questions which were quiet generic, I wouldn't mind hearing some first hand experience.

Thanks in advance!
