good answer to question....

Hi,

I have an interview coming up and was wondering what a good answer to "Why did you choose the Tech Group" ?

I never applied their specifically, and just had my CV forwarded, so it's not like I really chose it.

This is for a firm in SF.

Any responses would be appreciated

Seriously, if you can't think up an answer to this question how do you ever expect to shmooze.

Say something like, "Always have been interested in the space, kept up on the deals," then discuss a selected deal you have researched. Talk about SF and the (potentially) laid back culture compared to other places in the country to work. Probably something about liking the breadth of experience of an industry group as opposed to a product group. Also some specific information about the firm. Perhaps discuss the entrepreneurial culture of tech firms and the difficulties of valuing them as a interest and a way to make your experience more valuable.

This should be basically the standard BS answer to any question like this.
