gpa discrepancy for finance internship

Preface: pls don't moralize or tell me that I deserve consequences or a punishment, I am just looking for advice

I accepted an offer for a summer internship at one of the big banks (think: jpm, goldman, citi, etc) for next summer (summer of 2027)

The application required a minimum GPA of 3.6 and technically my GPA is a 3.1 but it is only a 3.1 because of a single class. For context, there was a family tragedy and I had to late drop a few classes and to avoid being below the unit minimum for my college I enrolled in a class very late.

I received approval from the university to retake that class whenever I want and have the new grade replace my old grade for GPA calculations because I got an F in the class as I did not show up for midterm, final, etc or do the class work since I knew I was going to retake it.

Without that one class, my GPA is a 3.6 and if you remove it from calculation I am at the threshold.

I plan on retaking the class during fall of 26 and receiving the grade I need to get above that 3.6 threshold.

I have two questions

  1. When will the company likely do the onboarding process where I submit transcript and things of that nature? If it occurs after fall of 26 then my new GPA will already be above the 3.6 since I am retaking the class and I will be okay.
  2. Does anyone have any advice / should I proactively send an email saying my situation or wait for it to come up? How likely is it that I lose my offer?

this would be for my junior summer and I am currently a sophomore, do you think that they would start the background check process soon or would they wait until like next fall because by next fall id have the grades needed. thanks for your answer!
