GS and JPM Applications
Hello guys! I recently applied to GS and JPM analyst program for graduate students. I am a current business graduate student, non MBA, from a semi-target school in the south. I just would like to get any feedback possible on my chances of landing any first round interviews with said firms, I currently have 1 year of non-finance related work experience and a masters degree GPA of 3.3-3.4, 2-3 extracurriculars counting undergraduate and skills when it comes to languages and excel. Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!
Hey there! It's great to hear that you're aiming high with GS and JPM. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are a few things to consider:
GPA: Your GPA is decent, but it's not the only factor. Firms like GS and JPM look at the whole package. They want to see that you're well-rounded, so your extracurriculars and language skills could be a plus.
Work Experience: While your work experience isn't directly related to finance, it's still valuable. It's all about how you spin it. Can you draw parallels between what you did and the skills required in investment banking? If so, make sure to highlight that in your applications and interviews.
Networking: This is key. Based on previous WSO threads, many applicants get their foot in the door through networking. Reach out to alumni, attend events, and make connections. You never know who might be able to put in a good word for you.
Preparation: Make sure you're prepared for technical and behavioral questions. For example, GS typically asks behavioral questions and occasionally technical ones depending on the division. JPM, on the other hand, might ask you to explain why you'd be a good fit for the analyst position and to describe a time when you were part of a successful team or solved a complex problem.
Why GS/JPM?: Be ready to answer this question. What makes these firms stand out to you? Why do you want to work there specifically?
Remember, the process can be tough and competitive, but don't get discouraged. Keep pushing, keep networking, and keep learning. You've got this!
