Help a College Freshman at a Target Looking to Break into IB

Hi. I am an incoming college freshman with aspirations to pursue a career in investment banking. I'm at a target school for a lot of firms and plan to apply to the top-tier finance clubs. Besides keeping my GPA high and (hopefully) getting into the clubs that place well, what else should I be doing to better my chances at breaking into IB? IB is definitely a desirable option, but it's not the end-all-be-all for me--I'm gonna rush a frat and plan on having fun in college. Nonetheless, I'm still looking for some ways to 'get ahead'; my school is extremely competitive for IB, so I want to be as prepared as possible. That said, what are some ways I can maximize my chances of getting an internship offer when the time comes? Would you recommend getting an internship at a smaller PE shop this summer? If so, would it be expected that I know my technicals PRIOR to interviewing there? If anyone who has gone through this process before could offer some insights, that would be much appreciated!
