Help! Career Path of Credit Analyst - Special Assets

Hi Monkeys,

After a lot of job searching over the past two months, I finally landed an interview at a pretty regional commercial bank for a credit analyst position. This role is in the special assets group which deals mostly with distressed loans, OREO etc. Obviously this is much different than your traditional C&I and CRE loans that many credit analysts work with. If my ultimate goals is to transition to corporate banking or a lateral to a bigger bank in a couple years, would this be a good role? Any help is appreciated.

hey, totally wondering, but could you share your background briefly and how you managed to get an interview? i've been trying to land a credit analyst stint for SO long, months on end now and i'm struggling. i'm in tech right now (and not the fancy engineering type) and graduated with a CS degree.

Honestly, I think it was a combination of experience and luck. I have a year and a half of corporate finance (mid-size company) experience and had a past internship in credit. However, what I think did it for me was that I reached out to the recruiter after applying to express my interest in the job. About three weeks later I got a call to interview. I wish I could tell you one specific thing I did, but I believe it was a combination of experience, luck and timing. Just keep trying, it's not easy but you'll get a chance if you're persistent and try to differentiate yourself from the average candidate that just applies online.
