Help Goldman Background Check
Hi All,
I have a serious problem I am facing. I am currently in the middle of having a background check conducted by Goldman Sachs. I received a call from them a week ago stating that my name had been flagged for having an open misdemeanor charge pending against me from 12 years ago. They gave me all of the information for the court etc. When I went to the court house it turns out that there was an open case for public urination that occurred when I was in college. In any case I went before the judge and he sealed and dismissed the charges. In any case Goldman stated today that they had to consult with their legal department on the issue because I had stated on my application that I had no pending charges against me. I honestly had no idea that these charges existed and also how it would have never come up in 12 years! especially since I have been pulled over before and nothing has showed up. In any case has anyone had any issue like this before and any advice? I offered to have the judge write a letter stating that the charge was not a misdemeanor and was a violation but Goldman told me it wasn't necessary. They are meeting with legal tomorrow and said that I would get a call tom afternoon.
you're scrwed
You use "in any case" too often : (. In any case, although my experience was with another BB, I was dinged for a misdemeanor charge that I DISCLOSED (note that I specifically disclosed my charge from day one). But I really hope they overlook this issue for you since it's public urination.
What happened to those good old days where you could just piss anywhere and on anything? R Kelly really fucked it up for all of us.
Thanks for your comments. I hope that they can "read between the lines" with this situation. I had no idea that this charge even existed. Furthermore, if I was able to evade justice for 12 years for public urination which is never prosecuted as a misdemeanor (charged as one but subsequently dropped or dismissed unless repeat offender) then I would really have to be living in a shell somewhere.
Update:
Goldman rescheduled their meeting with legal until next Tuesday at 11 am. The wait continues...
yea. gs is extremely very comprehensively thorough
You'll be fine.
All the best!
Sent you a PM
Is it really a misdemeanor? I thought that was usually considered a civil offense, more like a traffic ticket than a real crime.
It is charged as a misdemeanor but never ultimately ends up as one just as in my case where the judge dismissed and sealed the case with no fine
Update: Still no update from Goldman, meeting was rescheduled yesterday to take place at some point today.
any update?
Still nothing. I spoke with them last Thursday and was told that they still had not come to a final decision and that now they needed to take a look at exactly what my job duties would be as an analyst. Really not sure how long this is going to take, although I do plan on putting another phone call into them this afternoon if I have not heard anything.
I feel your pain, I was in a similar boat, being a victim of the waiting game. Hopefully your outcome will be compensating, because mine wasn't.
Update:
I have passed the background check! Does anyone know if the credit check is considered part of the background check or if it is something separate that also needs to be cleared? I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I AM IN the clear before I start relying on this job being here in two weeks. Do they typically perform the credit check after the background check?
I'm glad you were cleared for this position. If anyone else finds themselves in a similar predicament, please let me know as I am usually in the criminal court in lower Manhattan and can assist you in vacating a bench warrant and disposing of your outstanding summons.
Here's a recent piece I wrote on the subject of NYC summonses and criminal background checks: http://www.public-urination.com/public-urination-background-checks/
