So I interned at a billion dollar FoF here is my opinion:

Its fun, don't get me wrong and the culture is very relaxed. Well my FoF was an OCIO. I knew a guy who went from IB to the FoF and his hours as a Director in investment strategy is like a solid 8:30 to 5:30. I'm sure it varies but it was honestly an amazing experience, but you will never touch a stock a day in your life. Everything is super long-term in comparison to trading individual equities, but you will have a lot of exposure to everything.

I have a friend working at a large university's endowment, he says that he enjoyed having a self-directed portion, because you can join both investment vehicles like private equity, hedge fund, US equity, etc, but also buy into individual equities. Its the best of both worlds ykno? You'd also be working for a school so hey, free college for your kids?

Regardless, good luck man!
