how do headhunters reach out during buyside recruiting

do headhunters usually reach out via work email or linkedin? Given that I will be joining an EB that doesnt look favorably on buyside recruiting, would there be an possibility that my firm might monitor my inbox and flag my email convos with HH? are they even within their right to snoop on my convos?

Also is it ok to ask a HH to email you at a personal email address instead?
