How do I go about laterling? (AM)

Am an AM analyst a BB (1st year). Did not intern here, previously interned at an RIA in WM and made the jump here because I did not want to get funneled into WM. However, after about a month am not really enjoying the work at all. While I expected it to be grunt work as an analyst, am enjoying the scope of clients we work with, the type of investments, and do not jibe with the team overall (for reference, I am a ORM first gen college student who grew up in The Bronx while all my colleagues are very "country club" and "why would you take the subway and not uber" types of people (I understand that there are plenty of people like this in finance, but like it seems that I cannot relate to a single person on the team I am on at all/know of other teams that are not like this). As such I am looking to leave.

I understand that I ought to wait for the 6th month mark around Jan-March. My question is what do I do to set myself up for success. Should I have firms bookmarked right now and start slowly networking with people there till the time comes when I can ask if they are hiring? My firm has a 9 month wait before transferring (I know of other teams where I would fit in better). ATM, I think I would like to jump to a smaller firm but nothing beyond that.
