How do you guys search for places to cold call/e-mail?

I'm making a spreadsheet of places for myself and for a couple of classmates of mine containing lists of firms in each city in our state.

I went to google maps and typed in "financial services" and searched for that in whichever city. Also searched for "Asset Management"/"investment banking". I'd get the names on the little dot and then Google to find their websites/found numbers and add that info to my spreadsheet.

Eventually I'm going to create a web crawler bot to scrape through each website and search for the name of my school so I can find alumni, but I doubt I'll find much (non-target).

Is this the best way to look for places to try and target?

blueslord2910][quote=Human]I made these lists using FactSet a few months ago. Pretty recent lists. PE_VC_SF: https://www.box.com/s/32eb2d168a5d56f2d1f8 PE_VC_NYC: https://www.box.com/s/c36f6990b39f5c2852a9 PE_VC_Boston: https://www.box.com/s/05c375b4ec6ef5fc2a63[/quote

StenoThanks for those man.

If you have one for Dallas I would appreciate it as well.

Now, you're getting greedy.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

I'm gettin' greedy too, howabout Chi-Town?

Baby you're the perfect shape, baby you're the perfect weight. Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. It makes a man feel good baby.

Haha, I take what I can get.

Would it be easier to get a job in NYC than Dallas? Seems like there's a larger pool for the offices in NYC to pull from and more competition.

Grab some databases off the internet. Free trials at services like Venture Source can help you locate all necessary mid-market investment banks or VCs or any financial service company you may be looking for.

try linkedin as well. also i found a lot of my alumni (so non-target it ins't funny) in high places through lord abbett's search engine that wasn't on linkedin or the web.
