How do you manage multiple recruiting timelines for internships? (Sophomore Year)

Heading into sophomore year at a target. Internships for 2022 have started popping up on my school's career portal and stuff. I was wondering, how would you guys recommend handling recruiting for sophomore summer when timelines are so different? My school's career center is extremely helpful in recruiting for sophomore internships but the bane is that different opportunities come up at different times of the year. For instance, they had a couple of sophomore internships at UMM/MF PE funds literally open up in the spring (for the same summer), directly from alumni. Similarly, different boutique IB and PE internships open up at different times of the year. All this is to say that I don't want to get an internship too early and then hate myself because there is a better one that I can't take without rescinding (which may have consequences). At the same time, I don't want to wait until the very last moment and end up without anything. What do I do?

I would build a list of targets that you want / would be happy at. This is just your sophomore yr internship. Ideally you'll have one there and another at a different firm, perhaps different role, following junior yr. Would be good to have two experiences to gauge your interest. So build a target list of good candidates that satisfy your goals for this yr. Apply to them as they are available and accept (and stick to) an offer as it comes up. If there are multiple opportunities within the same tier firm, you can try to get one to expedite the offer if they are dragging their feet. Other than that, make a great list up front and this issue takes care of itself.
