This Thursday it will have been 4 weeks since I was told I would be receiving an offer letter. I was originally told that they were shorthanded on HR and it could take a week but I was not expecting it to drag out 3+ weeks (first 2 weeks or so I just gave the benefit of the doubt because of labor day and such). I have been checking in with the SVP that runs the office, and is the one that hired me, and am being told the executive that needs to approve/sign off on the offer has been traveling and that he has been pushing for HR to get it approved. Is this abnormal or typical of HR? For reference, this is a fairly large company with 5,000-10,000 employees (according to LinkedIn).

I had the same issue. had to wait 2 weeks for the official offer all because 1 person was always out of the office, but eventually got it. It can be frustrating, 4 weeks is far to long in my opinion. Honestly just a waiting game and every week just follow up.
Thanks for the input, I think it is too long as well but seems to be out of the hiring managers hands and now in the hands of HR and the person that needs to sign off. I don't mind the waiting as much but I tend to overthink and the back of my mind says that they could be interviewing more candidates and holding me off. Logically I don't see why they would even extend an offer in the first place if they thought I was a fit. I'm choosing to give the benefit of the doubt though that the person that needs to sign off on it has just been busy/traveling.
I am actually in the exact same position as you are. Either my primary contact or HR has reached out almost every week and let me know that they are still processing my offer letter. They always mention that they are aware it is taking a very long time.
Considering the SVP is reassuring you he / she is trying to push HR, I think you should feel safe that it is just the size of the firm and the number of people that need to sign off that is taking so long.
I like your situation more since I've been the one to reach out first every time whereas your contacts are reaching out to you. But yeah I don't think I'm being screwed over. Have been in contact with the SVP for about 2 months now and even had lunch with him. I think you're solid with your situation, how many weeks has it been?
4-5 weeks. I know I'm not the only new person joining the team so that might also be causing the delay.
Isnt it sad it takes HR 1+ month(s) to compose a letter?
I think the letter is complete but just needs to be approved. But yeah, seems like 4+ weeks for the process to complete is awhile.
