How much more salary to ask for? Urgent

Hi everyone,

Would really appreciate your help. I currently work in a county that pays salary tax free and now considering moving back. I have beemyomeres a job but they have asked my current pay and what do I expect. Of course I am going to state my pay and mention its tax free....if I use a calculator then I need to be paid x amount here to have the same take home amount as I am earning abroad. I am thinking of asking for about 23 percent increase on top of what I am currently earning given that the cost of living is less where I am right now and also given that we a approaching the end of the year and I am up for promotion, I am being reasonable?

Calculate what before tax salary you would need to maintain your current take home, then adjust it up for cost of living, and whatever premium you think you deserve regarding being up for promotion. That should be your minimum ask. It will probably be a negotiation process so be prepared to explain your reasons for your ask, and be prepared to come down a bit, so give yourself some a little wiggle room. I'd also check the WSO database, glassdoor.com, etc if you want to make sure you're in line with the market for whatever it is you'll be doing.

As long as you're close enough to the market range and you can explain and justify what you're asking for, then you're being reasonable.

Thanks a lot trisomy, very helpful

So let's say I am on 70k, that's the before tax salary that will get me to where I am right now, is it going to be reasonable for me to say " given higher living costs and expected promotion I will be looking at 85k......do u think I should add open for negotiation or maybe put a range like 85-90, or perhaps 80-85 but then I am worried I maybe pushed to 80k

What do u think?
