How Much Should I Spend on Hotel for Diversity Program

I got into the Evercore Houston Energy diversity event. They're covering my plane ticket and one night of lodging.

How much is appropriate for a hotel room?

I'm looking at options on Google Maps of hotels near the office, and there are 3-star hotels going for $220, 4-star hotels going for $250 to $400, and 5-star hotels going for $350 (all pre-tax. tax is roughly 17%). There are also farther hotels that I'd have to Uber to going for $150.

I also already booked plane tickets for $550 economy class.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's important to balance cost and convenience, especially for a professional event like the Evercore Houston Energy diversity program. Since they are covering one night of lodging, you might want to stay close to the office to avoid additional Uber costs and ensure you're well-rested for the event.

A 3-star hotel at $220 or a 4-star hotel in the $250 range seems reasonable and professional without being excessive. Opting for a 5-star hotel at $350+ might be overkill unless you have a specific reason to justify it. Avoid the farther hotels at $150 if the Uber costs and inconvenience outweigh the savings.

Remember, the goal is to present yourself professionally while being mindful of costs.
