How professional should your LinkedIn profile pic be
I use LinkedIn a lot for networking. I do not think my picture is unprofessional. It's a nice professionally taken photo. I noticed that some people are dressed business professional in their pictures. That said, I noticed women could get away with wearing a nice blouse. In my picture, I am wearing a sleeveless blouse and looking over my shoulder. Is that inappropriate?
Business professional is definitely a bit more varied for women. I would say you're probably okay.
How much skin is too much? It's just my arm. Do you think that would make people take me less seriously?
Looking through my network on LinkedIn, there are plenty of women in great jobs who are showing their arms. Several women in IB at BBs and at MBB wearing similar to what you described your picture looks like. You're fine.
I've found that using oil portraits of myself is the best route.
Definitely have to try that lol
Personally I prefer pointillist renderings.
LMFAOOOOOO ... this!!
I would err on the side of caution and go with a rather formal photo. One can argue it's dependent on what industry you are in, but I would argue people within finance should have a professional photo for their LinkedIn photo. My personal opinion, but I would suggest facing the camera directly... but that's just my opinion.
The instdury that I am interested in is IB. Hypothetically, if someone where to send a message on LinkedIn and their profile picture was like the one I described above, would the receiver be less inclined to answer?
I would personally feel like it's not a professional photo. I'm not sure as to whether that affects one replying or not.

I see you use LinkedIn for extracurricular activities and related 'networking'.
Although, right now, I'm wondering why she ain't posing in a bikini. Certainly useful if she wants more business.
Damn that hurts
her face says come hither but her body language says fuck off. yep, sounds about right.
Honestly, if I would receive a message on Linkedin from a chick with a topless picture, asking for an info interview, I would bite.
You know LinkedIn is the latest dating app, right? This is where Chicks can "prospect" mates where, if their work history is correct, the females can give an accurate valuation of their potential mating partners.
that and fintwit
Personally, I have seen many LinkedIn profiles of women in IB wearing nothing but their birthday suit. That is probably the way to go.
I actually recently got a professional portrait photo taken. Cost a pretty penny, but I feel like it was worth it. My old photo was ok, as professional as a selfie can be, but it was still pretty bush league. Opted to do it properly and feel a lot better about it. I'd recommend it to people as clients/employers do tend to look you up.
It's a professionally taken photo. My concern is that I am not dressed business professional. Does that hurt?
buy side or sell side?
sell side
strong side
Get a professional photo with a little bit (not a lot) more cleavage showing than you think you should. Wear a blazer/coat as that won't impede the cleavage and will enhance your professionalism.
I wish I had cleavage. All I have is a johnson but you can't zoom the linkedin camera there
In mine I am sitting down with my legs crossed with my johnson tucked neatly into the pant leg (appropriately tailored of course) facing the camera. boom, mission accomplished. i'd say that's as close to "guy cleavage" as you can get (unless you enjoy pizza too much, then you can show actual cleavage).
Get a [email protected] handle. Heard they got into the sex ed space recently.
"It's saying I got the goods, but I'll be fucking classy when I show 'em"
I show a little bit of a sack in mine.

Need more gym time.
the pictures give me the feeling that if I went to dinner with either of these two I would end up drowning myself in my soup to avoid the sheer agony of death by boredom.
At least they don't have the overlaid COPYRIGHT watermark....
Definitely business professional. My school just started to give them out professional portraits for free.
belfie, for sure.
in all seriousness, even though it's a professional headshot, you're not interviewing to be a model.
Can't wait to see the next Belfie Influencer on LinkedIn
I'm amazed at how many people still have pictures from a frat mixer or formal as their LinkedIn pic. none of them are revealing, but I can't help but think "I remember this day, this was before our rush chair got brain from you in the bathroom while your date was puking his guts out, and now you're using this picture to get a job at KPMG"
I have myself holding a wad of cash in one hand. It's to show I mean business.
Dollar dollar bill y'all.
lol you totally reminded me of this guy... https://www.linkedin.com/in/poops-mcgee-0a64ba68
Don't think he's real, but most creative profile I've seen.
absolutely hilarious
this is amazing
Beautiful
that shirt tho - or is it a hoodie, or is it a cardboard piece glued to a polo shirt? absolutely fascinating :)
Depends on if you're attractive or not OP
I knew a recruiter that didn't look anything like her LinkedIn picture. She's a complete whale but her profile picture must be about 10 or so years old. Lol why do these whales think they can get away with this
If you use an awkward picture with Warren Buffett you get extra points
