I've heard its a turn off for employers if you want the job really badly..
how should one avoid looking desperate for the job they are applying for??

I'd suggest only applying to jobs that you realistically have the skills/background for. I know when you'rehttp://careerfunda.info/jobs/</a">** looking for a job** it an be tempting to apply to anything and everything that you could remotely do, but if you limit your search to jobs are are actually qualified for you'll feel more confident come interview time.
When I was interviewing for jobs I always tired to be as relaxed and natural as possible. It's a nerve-wrecking situation, but if you take a few deep breaths and remain cool, calm, collected and friendly you won't seem desperate.
