How to chase up?

I'm in discussions with this firm about a job. Unlike other posts I've made and other jobs, I am quite desperate for this position as it really fits me extremely well.

The first stage was a written exercise, which I killed. I sent it across and got an immediate response, syaing they will get back to me. Since then (over 3 weeks ago), I have had sporadic responses, mainly when I have emailed a few times to get an update.

There is still no word on how the process is going and I dont want to crowed the HR manager as I had done on a previous role. Initially, she said to me that interviews would be scheduled in the week I sent my exercise back but nothing. Since then, very little has emerged. I desperately dont want to lose this opp but I cant seem to shake the feeling, that after 3 emails in 3 weeks, I may be pushing it a little.

Shall I email again or contact her via phone? I get the feeling that after much delay, it may not be looking good for me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

7xEBITDAIs it possible that you didn't do as well as you think you did on the written test?

No, the initial inclination would be that but I had a job interview before from this firm, and completed the same exercise. In the end, the interview didnt go through because they withdrew the vacancy. So I know the work I completed was of a good enough standard to at least secure an interview.

If they withdrew the job there's really nothing you can do. I'd wait a few weeks and email them highlighting you are very interested in the firm and would like to be considered for future positions.

Thanks. But the withdrawn job was a previous one. I was bringing it up to compare the pieces of work I did. It was the same case study and when I completed it the first time, I got an interview, and that was when they withdrew the vacancy.

On this occasion, the job is still active. The work I completed was the same quality, but updated as necessary. It just confuses me that she mentioned an interview will be scheduled for me and then nothing.
