How to find boutique firms

I'm currently at a small boutique but want to make a move to New York. I think it's best for me to try to climb the ladder step by step rather than shoot my shot gunning for BB roles right away, so I'm looking to lateral to another small boutique. How do I find these? the WSO database is pretty helpful and I zoomed in on Manhattan on Google Maps and typed in "Capital" and like 50 firms popped up. Anyone have any tips on finding boutiques that are worth applying to and how to network effectively with the people who work there?

The job market is still pretty good.  I am going to assume you are still an analyst and at that level, it is pretty easy to lateral up-market even to a BB.  If you have your heart set on a boutique, I would reach out to headhunters. People on this site like to shit on Pinpoint and Selby Jennings, but they do have a large inventory of jobs even if they aren't the most sophisticated of headhunters.
