How to Lateral Internally?

Hi Monkeys, I'm currently a first year analyst in a BB coverage group. My group is split between New York and the city where I currently work. I accepted the job out of college in this city because it was the first IB offer I got, but my friends from college that were expecting to move to this city ended up accepting offers elsewhere. I like everyone that I work with and I like the group's culture, but outside of work, I really know no one in this city. Pretty much all of my college friends are in New York and I've found myself wanting to move to New York for social reasons. My questions for WSO are as follows:

1) What's the best way to approach moving to a new city while staying within the same group?  Does anyone have experience with how to approach this/any tips on how to get approval to do this internally?

2) If I am told no when trying to move internally, what would you recommend doing? Should I start looking to lateral to different jobs?

3) Should I wait until after bonuses next summer to make this request?

Thanks for any and all advice.
