How to reach out to ppl, LinkedIn or cold email?

As title says, I’m currently trying to learn about different career paths within buyside after my IBSA gig next summer. Is it better to reach out to ppl through cold email or should I send them a LinkedIn message assuming this is not recruiting related? Thanks!
