How to recruit for IB when I don’t know much?

Hi,

I just finished an Equity Research internship (rising junior) and a lot of the conversations I had with employees at the bank lead me to belive I should pursue investment banking.

I feel really comfortable with doing personal interviews and I have a lot to speak to my strengths (and weaknesses lol), but in addition to being late to the recruiting cycle, I feel like I know nothing technically-wise compared to some people also pursuing IB. I understand the industry/functions from a high level, but it seems like you have to have a vast amount of knowledge to even interview.

What do you guys recommend I do to get a better understanding of the industry and learn some more technical functions? I know summer analysts
are not expected to know everything - I’m a very coachable person and am eager to be taught, but how should I go about learning enough to get into a program?

Any advice/similar stories are appreciated.

Rising junior is tough because you're about a year late to recruiting. Do you have an internship lined up for next summer?

If you are doing ER at a BB  or something similar next summer, you should be able to pursue FT recruiting which is difficult but possible with a top name on your resume. Otherwise if you are really set on IB, your best bet is to extend graduation one semester so you're a sophomore in their eyes, then start networking your ass off. There are lots of "how to get started / how to network / path to landing IB" threads on here if you search around.

There are technical interviews but they are not that challenging, especially if you aren't a finance major. You can learn the content in a week or two of studying
