How to start networking with higher up officials (VPs, MDs)

As an incoming sophomore at a target I've been trying to networking with people for the 2021 internships but I've only been able to contact analysts and a few associates. None of the VPs or MDs that I've contacted via Linkedin/email and are from my university have replied back and since people on here have said that analysts/associates have little to no impact during the recruiting process, I was wondering how to start actually networking with the more important people.

Whoever said "analysts/associates" have no impact during recruiting process is plain wrong. In fact for the most part I'd argue the opposite.

I am part of the recruiting team for my firm (EB) there are about 5-6 junior and 2-3 senior people. The seniors don't even participate in the first round/resume screening nor do they really care. They only join during superday. They usually just forward any kid that reaches out to them to me/other juniors and I take the informational call. Or they just forward the kid's resume. Of course if its a personal connection (i.e. family friend/ client's kid) that is a different case.
