How to tell connection I applied for a job

I'd like to let someone I networked with know I've applied for a position at the firm they work at; is this coming on too strong? They didn't specify they would give me a referral, but I thought the call went well and they gave me the contact info of a recruiter.

What would be the best way to let them know I applied for a position without being presumptuous?
