How would my situation (gap year due to financial hardship) be perceived during SA recruiting/background check?
Hey everyone,
I am an undergraduate senior (original grad date: December 2021) at a private target school. Due to financial hardships, I have decided to take a gap year to do some internships to make money to fund my own expenses and university tuition (New grad date: December 2022). For some context, my parents were unemployed during the pandemic and had to use their remaining funds to pay for my university tuition. However, my parents don't have the resources to pay for my remaining education which basically forces me to delay my graduation by a year to get a fall/spring + summer 2022 internship to make enough money to finance my remaining education.
I have been lucky enough to land an IB SA 2022 offer at a BB for a top group, and I was wondering whether taking the gap year would be seen as a negative thing during the background checking process. Could my SA offer be revoked due to me taking a gap year or are my reasons for the gap year justifiable (if I'm asked to explain during the background check)?
Thanks in advance.
You absolutely won't be asked to explain, as long as you are enrolled at that school they do not care. They might want to make sure you graduate for FT and verify your GPA. You're overthinking this x1000, and your reasons were plenty legitimate anyway.
Thank you so much for sharing! Yeah, I was just worried because normally I don't think BBs have a lot of summer interns that are technically seniors (mostly juniors) so was wondering whether that comes across as a bit shady.
