I-Banking internship

Hey.

I'm a 3rd year finance student from Finland. I study in a not-so-well-known Business School, and I´m currently planning on applying for an investment banking internship either in London or NYC.

First of all, I have a GPA of 3.0 (problem, I know). I will finish my bachelor's degree by the end of spring 2010. I work part time in a respected asset management / brokerage firm in Helsinki but the problem is that I'm bored. Really, really bored. I guess sales and advisory isn't just my thing. In addition I have a lot of other work experience (finance) and leadership experience (officer, military).

Anyway, which I-banks hire summer analysts from non-target schools with a GPA as low as 3.0? Our university's career center has no contacts to I-banks. I'm dreaming of GS, JP Morgan and BarCap..

What do foreign interns need for working in NYC? A working visa? What else? Does the employer pay for the visa, or is this only for the FT employees?

Any hints and advice for applying would help! Thanks guys!

Is your school in the US or in Finland? If it's not an American school, your GPA might be less important since banks are less sure of how much it means. American GPAs are, ultimately, inflated.

If you're at a non-target, you should network the hell out of these places. Find names of people who work at these places from your school. You need to cold-email.
