Unless you were literally showing up to work drunk, no reputable bank would do this... sounds like a really shitty bank and I'm sorry

Good news: no one will ever know. Most internships are 10 weeks anyway. If they call to confirm employment, just give them HR's number. HR will not say anything except confirming that you did indeed work there - anything beyond that becomes a potential legal issue, and I highly doubt an intern even has a formal termination on file anyway.

Keep grinding on recruiting, use the experience as a learning point and get back on the networking trail

That's not 100% true. They can legally ask to verify the employment dates you gave them, your last job title and whether you are eligible for re-hire or not

It's that last question/answer that will kill you if you left on bad terms.

  1. Everyone gets fired during their career at one point or another. It just happened to you a little earlier than you wanted and that's OK.
  2. If you really want to grow from this then you need to show some ownership over your actions and your career. There is no firing that happens without both parties playing a role in it. Yes, that means you played a role in your own firing. Until you are willing to give yourself an honest examination of what you did wrong and why it happened, then you will always have gaps in your skills (and quite frankly, your character) that will lead you to be fired again at some point in your future.

Good luck!

I know this is not ideal but it's probably a blessing in disguise. A company that treats their interns like is not a company you wanna stay at in the long run. You had already completed 10 weeks anyway, which is what most summer internships last for. If you're still set in IB, definitely do not let this little thing deter you from following this path, best of luck!
