I may have made a mistake
Guys I am entirely new to this, so bear with me.
I have applied to a position for a Summer Internship, but I am afraid that if they pick me for an interview and I get rejected I will hurt my chances for the next year.
Is this a rational fear or am I overthinking?
Not rational. Unless you go off about some racist shit or sexually harass the HR manager or something that gets you immediately blacklisted - your interview performance won't be held against you next year. Frankly no one will even remember you by then.
Ultimately, you're in college, you are or should be in a process of rapid learning and maturity. People understand that a crap candidate this year can very well be an excellent candidate next year, if that 12 months was spent working on your skillset (both technical and soft skills), networking, and actually learning the industry.
Thank you so much!
I really appreciate it!
if you mess up an interview, nobody will remember you in 2 weeks let alone 12 months.
every interview is an opportunity to get better, just do your best
Have had a networking call with someone who had a Super Day at a bank for summer analyst, rejected and recruited to another firm for the summer. Ended up going back to bank 1 after re-recruiting FT. Don't stress.
