I suck at interviews

Hello,

To give a quick overview: target uni bsc finance, electives in linear algebra, first class honors. I know the technicals. Prior experience in equity research. I am always excited before an interview, but after I get nervous/anxious. Try to think of what I did wrong. Do you have any thoughts or tips? I am slowly starting to believe I am absolute dog shit, certified choker and would not get a job cleaning toilets at big 4. Feel I might have trouble connecting with interviewers, idk

you can know every technical question in the book word for word but if your personality is garbage it don’t matter. Technicals are a checkbox in interviews and behaviorals are what gets you the offer. Practice behaviorals and have a unique story. Connecting with interviewers are important. I have had interviews were I thought it went really well but no offer, so luck is definitely at play too.

Assuming your issue is that you’re nervous (not like being an asshole or overly arrogant for some reason).

Coming from someone who is introverted and pretty awkward at times but still managed to get offers (started at a MM and lateraled to an EB later), here are three major tips:

  • Smile more
  • Speak slower and enunciate
  • Try to squeeze in 1-2 small jokes
