IB or M&A or TMT

First time poster here.

If in an internship interview, you are asked 'why are you interested in this division?", are they referring to IBD, or specifically M&A if no division was specified in the application?

They'll generally ask you "why i-banking?" if they want to know the answer to that. if they're wondering what groups you're interested it'll be along the lines of "what groups are you interested in?"

MM IB -> Corporate Development -> Strategic Finance

start by answering why ibanking, and then narrow your response to the specific group, be it an industry or product group, depending on the bank you are applying to. that way you cover all angles.
