IB post Oxford MFE
Anyone here graduate from Oxford MFE (or similar tier MFE/MFin program) and get investment banking analyst position at a bulge bracket without prior SA position? My summer breaks weren’t long enough to do SA position and quite frankly it wasn’t until end of my penultimate year I fully realized I wanted to pursue IB within finance. I’m curious what you would recommend for recruiting—I know Oxford Saïd has a careers center and we will get recruiters from top banks but still makes me anxious knowing FT offers are given out to SAs as early as August.
Essentially what I’m asking is did you find it most helpful to do all the networking and applying yourself, with the backing of the MFE/MFin and your alum network as helpful, or rely mostly on the recruiters that reach out to the program? I’m also assuming I technically only qualify for “New Analyst” program but looks like lots of MFE grads technically took on SA position which rolled into FT offer in same year so not sure which I should be targeting. Any other tips would be very appreciated! :)
personally not at oxford MFE, but have friends who were there, and it's very unlikely to secure a FT offer without having done an SA before. You will most likely do a SA after your MFE then convert it to a FT position. heavy emphasis on networking with alumni too
any chance you could connect me with a friend who did MFE, SA, then immediate FT offer? Just looking to get some advice because this doesn’t seem super common. Thanks for the info!
Do an SA right after the MFE and ask to start asap after it - ie Oct or Jan depending on the bank. You can also do SA+Off cycles in autumn.
