I'm an idiot and forgot about my phone interview.

So I'm a sophomore at a target school. I had a phone interview with a hedge fund, but my school does finals really late, so I was really busy with just passing finals until late January. My interviewer rescheduled from late January to early February because he was late getting home from vacation. Once I got done with finals, I had one week before second-semester classes start, and I was traveling, and had a lot of personal issues on my mind. I completely forgot about the re-scheduled appointment for a phone interview.

What do I do? Just chalk it up as a loss, or do I reach out to their secretary, apologize, and try to get it re-scheduled? No real excuse for this so I know it doesn't look good.

Apologize profusely and try to explain the hectic nature of your schedule. Also mention that your schedule is no excuse, but you were really excited by the prospect of working at firm XYZ and you would love to still be considered, if possible. You're probably fucked, but if it is a small enough firm maybe their hiring process is less systematic.

Call as if it were according to plan, then blame the assistant if anyone asks.

...don't do that. In all honesty I would just call to reschedule and simply say you marked the wrong date if it's brought up. Don't make anything up because as truthful as it may sound, 99% of the time they are able to see through your bullshit and they would most likely respect you all the more for being honest. Good luck.

No matter how sexy she is, someone, somewhere, is tired of her shit.
