Include Cover Letter when registrating for events?

Just wondering if you need to submit a cover letter when applying to firm events (GS insights, Blackrock find your future, etc.)

If so, what do you guys include on these cover letters?

Just asking cause I've been only submitting one-page resume and finding no success
