Infra Investing - Am I trying To Do the Unthinkable?
don't go by my title
I moved over to a renewables IPP a couple of years ago. A lot of my work is modeling heavy - I am either building a business case for one of our assets so that we can secure a PPA for it or looking at acquisitions of development stage and operating assets. I / my team are running the model, doing the valuation, putting together the investment memo, identifying risks and mitigants. We have seperate teams at my company responsible for providing merchant view on energy curves and liaising with banks to secure project financing, but I am involved on all those workstreams, meaning I can speak to covenants or how the merchant view was formed (transmission upgrades considered, and renewables penetration assumed).
My background is 3.5 yrs of IB in a non P&U industry group (FIG/TMT) at primarily a mid-tier BB, and ~1 yr of PE at a LMM PE shop that was eventually shut down by the CEO of the firm. I also worked for a year at a Series C funded tech startup in a leadrship role reporting to the CEO where I overlooked strategy and business ops. I am a M7 MBA graduate.
Looking for Senior Associate / Junior VP roles at a MM/UMM infra fund. Not getting traction from every firm I am reaching out to, which was not what I was expecting tbh. I got a feeling that what I am trying to do is achievable but would love to learn from folks in the industry on if my background is non-traditional ...
