What has your experience been like with recruiting? if you've ever gotten an interview or a JOB!! on Wallstreet please be so kind as to share your story. I'm an international student and it seems like we don't exist or something lol

International student at a semi-target here. Recruited successfully for an EB SA position and got a return offer as well.

Looking back, the hardest thing was going pretty far in certain processes and finding out from HR that the firm didn’t sponsor, effectively ending the process with that firm.

Besides that, the recruitment experience honestly isn’t that different from domestic candidates, though this is assuming you understand American culture enough to strike up a good conversation during networking, which was and still is the most important thing to getting an interview. You might even get lucky and talk to someone from the same country as you, which will get you some points if you take advantage of it.

If you don't mind me asking, what school did you/do you attend? how did you go about networking? what was you previous work experience prior to your application for your current role?

Won’t reveal my UG out of concern for anonymity, but prior work experience was an unpaid internship at a boutique advisory firm. The point of that was to add to the credibility of my resume.

In terms of networking, I focused on alumni from my school (lucky to have had at least 1-2 analysts to talk to at every bank most people would consider applying for). If conversations went really well they would often refer me to their friends at the firm to further develop my network.

There's actually plenty of internationals in finance and also plenty of posts like this on wso. It's 100% not like we don't exist.
