Interning Virtually

Hey everyone, I wanted to start a forum to discuss tips for virtual IB internships. I just received word that my internship at a semi-BB will be online.  These can be about anything, but I was most curious about best ways to adapt quickly to the work/environment as well as best practices for networking. Feel free to ask more questions below!

The best way to handle virtual internships is to focus on your time management and communication. Since no one can see how much you are working on you need to be very active at either getting work if you don’t have enough or communicating what’s on your plate to higher ups when you have multiple deadlines.

You’re at home in a bit more of a relaxed environment so try to make sure you have separation from your work and home life. Whether having a small office set up and just not focusing on work outside of there or exercising regularly, make sure to have a way to take breaks.

On the networking front, most firms have a mentor/buddy program. Use these people as a launching point and ask who they would recommend reaching out to. After that just send an email reaching out or even a slack and most people are more than happy to connect.

Hopefully this helps
