Internship at New York Life
I just recently got an internship at New York Life Insurance full time for this summer. Working off commission as an agent for the most part. What do you think?
I'm guessing its one of those call family & friends to sell life insurance, mutual funds, etc too where your paid zero except on commission.
Basically its something to put on your resume if you got nothing better. Maybe its your thing & you will like it.
Simply put, if you don't know quite a few well off people - you're fucked from the get go.
I am a sophomore in college. The company offers a lot of resources being that it is a top tier company and it sells a lot of financial products not only insurance policies. I am hoping to gain a better understanding and be as successful as possible during my 10 weeks this summer and hopefully come back. I am getting licensed in life and health BTW and potentially securities next summer.

Hi everyone, my long-term goal is to pursue real estate development/investment. It's been difficult securing an internship, so I am trying to get any experience I can find at this point. I'm a sophomore at a liberal arts college by the way. I went to a career fair and met a recruiter at New York Life. After an interview, I was offered an internship in marketing. He said he wants to license me to sell insurance as well? I thought this was odd.
I'd really appreciate any insight on an internship with New York Life. As an alternative, I was thinking I would be better off working with non-profit housing development firms or NGOs related to housing/homelessness. Do you think this would be a better alternative?
