Internship Question for IB analyst/associates/VP
Hello,
I’m seeking some advice. I’ve been looking for answers for a while and my advisor says it’s a good approach, some IB workers say it’s a good approach, and some other say it’s a bad idea.
Im currently an incoming Freshman at a non-target school (we still have a lot of alumni working in IB) and I have a tax internship lined up for spring 2024 (I’m taking a semester off of school). I also have made it to second round interview for a business valuation summer 2024 internship at —- with around 8,500 employees.
I want to work at a middle market firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota or Chicago. I plan to complete a summer analyst internship in summer 2025 and summer 2026. Would you all recommend me completing the business valuation internship (it’s really good pay) or would this negatively affect me.
Business valuation internship would be really helpful, more than the tax internship tbh. What you would learn is directly applicable to IB and it would help in building your story when they ask "why IB".
Yeah, the tax internship was mainly to get some office experience and pay for some of my tuition. Thank you for the input
Going the business valuation internship route is a death sentence. As a matter of fact, attending a non-target school is a death sentence. You're better off going to trade school and hoping the world still needs plumbers in 2027.
