Internships still available?

I'm a Sophomore Economics Major at a middle-of-the-road public college with a 3.9 GPA, 2240 SAT (I hear finance firms look at SAT scores) and a number of leadership positions on campus.

I have built up a great resumé in college and I have spent the last few months slaving away on transfer applications to some target schools for ibanks (Penn, Columbia, Cornell).

I was also planning on trying to get a summer internship in the field of finance, ideally in New York City.

However, in my singular focus on trying to transfer (along with an overload of classes), it never crossed my mind to look at application deadlines for summer finance internships.

I'm feeling a little sick now because it seems as though every finance firm has stopped taking applications for summer internships.

I thought that I would be a competitive candidate for a number of good firms but now, I'd be happy with getting an internship at all.

Is there anywhere somewhat reputable that is still taking applications for a summer finance internship?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

you're a soph, if you make it to one of those targets you'll be fine. (edit: maybe besides cornell) if you dont, its a little trickier, but by all means still doable.

Consider internships in wealth management (private, global, etc.). these are typically quite easy to come by, just call an office (likely a branch) of a firm of your choice and ask about internship opportunities for this summer. I'm a freshman and will be doing a PWM internship at UBS. Other than that, many boutiques and even some MMs will look for interns into April. I was looking on RBC's career site last night (thinking about next summer) and they have a bunch of positions available in NYC and elsewhere. With your stats, you'll be just fine but keep in mind however that many opportunities are not advertised and so sometimes the best thing to do it just pick up the phone and call. Good luck and let us know what happens! PM me if you have any questions.

turtles:

I looked on RBC's website as per your suggestion and the only internships they are offering are Real Estate Finance internships in Ohio and North Carolina.

Do you have the names of these boutiques or MMs that have late deadlines? Where would I search for this?

Are there any somewhat related industries that are still accepting applications? At this point, I just want something that looks somewhat reasonable on a resumé that could aid me in getting a better summer internship my junior year (which I will apply for months before the deadline).

Would cold calling firms work? Emailing banks and asking if they would accept a late submission (although this would probably be unlikely)?
