Investment banking as a career advice for a 18 year old (Australia)

Hey everyone I’m a first year student studying economics, I got a decent atar but not super high due to some personal circumstances which held back my studies. I’ve been told by family members and teachers over the years I should really consider a career in IB as I was pretty good with numbers and economics in school. Just wondering what would be the best path for me now, should I transfer into something more stem focused like engineering? Also if it counts for anything my girlfriend’s dad worked in Macquarie bank for 20+ years so I do have a connection there. Advice?
