Is 2 days too soon to follow up after a final round interview?

I had a final round interview with the head of the group during the late morning on Monday. I sent my thank you email on Monday evening. My understanding is the rest of the team likes me as a candidate and they are just waiting for input from the head of the group. However, after not hearing anything during the two days after my interview, I decided to send a follow up email to the associate on Wednesday evening (the associate is in charge of running the entire process). Given how the holidays are approaching and how they are targeting a January start date for this position, I thought they may want to wrap up this process sooner rather than later. But did I send my follow-up email too soon? Did I ruin my chance of landing the position by following up two days after my final round interview? In my follow-up email to the associate, I simply asked if there are any updates and when I should expect to hear back. I also told the associate to let me know if I could answer any remaining questions

By the way, I was not given an estimate of when I would ultimately hear back after this final round interview.

And I was thinking of my follow-up email as an additional indication of interest in this position (given that a recruiter initially reached out to me about the position, not the other way around, and that one of the senior members of the team expressed concern about whether or not I want to stay in this role on a long-term basis)
