I am currently going into my sophomore year with my expectations low for a summer of 2023 internship. I have barely started networking and feel very behind. Is it even possible to get a somewhat good internship considering timelines?

I'm a little bit confused. If you are going into your sophomore year, then you would be ideally aiming for a summer 2024 internship. If you mean can you land a BB/EB/MM internship as a diversity sophomore, then the answer is probably not at this point. If you meant to say summer 2024, then there is no problem. Recruiting for that doesn't start for many months.

I meant to say summer 2023. Just trying to secure one going into junior year. Not sure if it is even possible at this point.

Why are you being so hard on yourself? Sophomore BB IB is next to impossible to land if you're not diversity, so much so it's barely worth applying. So don't stress about that. All of the SA23 talk you see on here is for people who are rising juniors.

Most sophomore internships are somewhat informal and signed in late fall or early spring of your sophomore year. Many people will not have a soph internship locked down when they sign a junior year offer.

Start networking at the start of sophomore year for SA24 (wait until Sept to start) but SA23 you should be aiming for regional firms - think 20 man IB/PE boutique that might let you come in for 6 weeks. You're going to have to network in parallel to SA24, but you seriously have plenty of time for both of these. You're really not behind at all. I'd say you're even a bit early to be honest.

Hopefully, I don’t come off as a hardo but I genuinely enjoy the work. I’m in an endowment fund and help a small family office in my free time. Ultimately, I really just want to be in the best position possible because I come from a nontarget school.
