Is there a future for commodities at banks?
Any thoughts on the future of commodities trading by banks? Universal banks have been trading commodities for years now (Citi and JPM both have extensive energy operations). Goldman and Morgan Stanley already have very large commodities groups, both physical and financial. Could upcoming regulations and limitations cause some banks to scale these operations down to limit risk/exposure to these volitile markets?
