Is this a glorified BO role?

Confused on this job description (I think it's just wishful thinking) - it has aspects of "data analysis" and "portfolio analysis," but seems to be a fund reporting job which I assume is like FP&A or accounting? It's at a $73B AUM FoF.

My questions are is this just a BO role/are there any exits - to what/is it good experience? What would you categorize the role as (accounting, audit, FP&A, data analytics, etc.)? If it is FP&A, how does it differ from FP&A at a F500/is there any useful knowledge to be gained for a future buyside role?

It seems they also do things like due diligence, RFPs/direct marketing to clients, calculate AUM, etc.

I'm not too familiar with jobs of this nature, so apologies if I seem naïve. Can't find much online so any info is appreciated.

Job Description

  • SUMMARY

As an intern in the Fund Data Reporting and Analytics Team (“Fund Data Team)” within Grosvenor’s Finance Department, the Intern will focus primarily on preparing portfolio performance reports and analyses in support of GCM Grosvenor’s business development and marketing initiatives for our Private Equity, Infrastructure, and Real Estate investment verticals.

The Fund Data Team works closely with our Client Services, Marketing, Corporate, and Investment teams, which submit recurring and ad hoc requests for performance and benchmarking reports, pro forma portfolio analyses, and other portfolio metrics.  Furthermore, the Fund Data Team works closely with our Fund Finance team and our administrators to obtain the information necessary to prepare the requested reports and analyses.  The role operates in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment, so the ideal candidate must be a well-organized, thoughtful team player who operates well under pressure and has excellent analytical and communication skills.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual will be involved in the following critical activities:

  • Analyze data related to fund and co-investments across all our private equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate-focused portfolios.
  • Prepare, analyze, and report performance information for business development and marketing purposes as well as for GCM Grosvenor’s investment team and senior management.
  • Prepare historical and forward-looking analysis for management fees, carried interest, and expenses.
  • Assist in Master Entity Data management across the GCM fund and investment universe.
  • Perform various ad-hoc and medium-term projects as assigned. Manage multiple requests simultaneously, ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Regularly interact with disparate departments across the firm to obtain information required to prepare the requested reports and analyses.
  • Manage analyses and requests through a multitude of applications and data visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI, Microsoft PowerQuery, Tableau, IHS Market iLevel, third party benchmarking services, and various Microsoft Excel Add-ins. Gain exposure to managing and querying transactional and reference data from enterprise data warehouses and accounting databases.
